January Website Update

January 2, 2010

Well the ball has dropped to start a new year.  Cheers to everyone for 2010!

What’s Supp?

After spending a whole whack of time coding the main page to shuffle in different pictures, our web host company no longer supports the coding in Frontpage.  So you may have noticed that the home page is back to not shuffling the pictures.  *Sigh*  But at least you can see the static pictures again.  Thanks to all who sent me a note telling me that the main page was broken.

Andy Juhl

Thanks for everyone’s support with the eBay store we’ve setup to sell off the remaining shots.  Lois, Tom and I are hoping to get rid of the remaining shots and pretty much all the HRC shots have now been listed on eBay.  We would like to close the store by the beginning of February so if you’re looking to pick up some traders or fill gaps in your collection, now is the time!  Some excellent deals to be had in the store so please check it out:

New Shots released last month:

  • Ho Chi Minh City
  • Las Vegas City #2
  • Las Vegas The Strip #2
  • Nagoya (same logo as 2008, smaller in size)
  • Phuket

Red Circle

  • Ho Chi Minh City
  • Phuket
  • New York Dessert Flared

  • Dallas Pin Shootout 2009
  • On-Line Happy New Year 2010

Doors Open and Ajar:

Ho Chi Minh City opened on December 17.

Seattle – new info on the HRC website is that it will now open in Spring 2010.  Guess it means it won’t be open in time for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics… Boo!

Medellin, Columbia will be getting a cafe in the summer.

Next Event:

Pins Gone Wild IV – Orlando – January 29 – 31

UPI (Useless Piece of Info):

There were over 130 shot glasses released in 2009.  You could have just started collecting last year and you’d already have a sizeable collection!

Of note, these ones increased the collection the most:

  • 65 City
  • 31 Red Circle (past 9 months)
  • 15 Event
  • 14 On-Line

If you have anything you’d like to write-up for the blog, send it to me and I’ll post it for you.  It doesn’t have to be long and can be about anything HRC related – such as your 100th visit to a cafe, a visit to a new cafe, your local cafe, your favorite GM, your top 10 favorite shots or cafes or even your summary of an event you’ve just attended.  Kinda lonely doing all the writing myself… I don’t have a cafe of my own and Seattle is taking FOREVER to open its doors, so inspiration is limiting.  I know there’s a few budding writers out there!  Get blogging!

December Website Update

December 9, 2009

Less than 20 days before Christmas… are your ready?!

The bottle opener collection had a lot of updates the past month.  Thanks to all who sent in additional pictures and collection information.  The lists are fairly complete – if anyone notices an opener not listed, please let me know.  Help with missing pictures appreciated!

Andy Juhl collection silent auction was a great success – thanks to everyone who participated!

November Website Update

November 3, 2009

Christmas is only 52 days away!  Oops.  Too soon?  Here’s the November update!  Feel better?

What’s Supp?

Apparently, I’m the only writer on the group.  What is this about?!  We have a blog now and I’m the only one contributing.  Does it sound like I’m complaining?  I am.  Come on – someones gone to their local cafe, new cafe, event, missing their closed cafe and can write something or send a picture.  Whatever.  It doesn’t have to be long or journalistic.  Send me something!  I already have a personal blog, so I don’t need to write for this one all the time too.  YOU as group members can add to the hrcshots.com site.  I don’t even have a local cafe so make me jealous and tell us about yours.

Moving on…

Are you a HRC bottle opener collector?  Well, hrcshots.com has launched a new section to track ’em for you.  It’s still in progress but should be near complete by the end of the month.  Currently, the lists are fairly accurate from A-L.  Have something to add – maybe a picture or two? – let me have it!

Of note:  As I don’t personally collect the bottle openers, if you are a collector and would like to help keep the pages accurate, please send me updates of new editions.  These particular pages will only be kept up if the collectors send in info.   You can check the current collection pages here:

For the list by city:

For the list by type:

Questions?  Get Answers.

We have a mountain of knowledge on this group.  A suggestion came in a few months back about having a segment on novice or really, really want to know questions.  If you have something you’ve wanted to ask about the hobby or a particular shot, send me your question.  I’ll throw it against a panel of experts and will post the results to the blog.

And experts, you’ve been volunteered already.  As soon as I get a question, you’ll get an email to chime in with your knowledge.  Oooo, the suspense.

webmaster@hrcshots.com – the shot experts are in.  Got a question?  Give us your best shot.

Coming Up / Stay Tuned

As most of you know, Andy Juhl was a fellow collector who passed away over the summer.  He asked if Lois, George and I would sell off his collection for Suzie.   We’ve had a lot of enquires about it and we’re finally ready to offer it up to the group.  Details on the auction will hit your inbox really soon.  So watch for it!  All info will be provided then.

  • Penang Hotel opened September 19.  No shot released yet.
  • Marbella opened October 30.
  • Gatlinburg cafe turned 10!  It’s a nice drive to the cafe (just past Dollywood!) so if you haven’t been, consider making a trip.  The cafe is pretty cool and the staff are really nice!
  • Red Circle dessert shots… rumors are flying around that these may hit more cities.  So save room for after lunch/dinner so you can snap these up!

George S. – always on the hunt (and finds) new shots.  The discovered section is usually brought to us by the letters “G.S.”
Tom C. – also a successful shot hunter.  Keep ’em coming!
Frank T.  – regular contributor of new shot photos.  Thanks!
Lois M. – had the honor of inventorying Andy’s “little” collection.  Thanks Lois for your hard work and all the time you put in getting it all together.  Well done!  And thanks for taking pictures of any missing website links!
And to close, it just has to be said.  I lasted 1 week longer at NFL Survivor football than the Shot Queen. I can’t out drink her but I can randomly pick NFL better than her (I don’t watch it!).  Alas, for the record, Lois’ Jaguars got beat this week (BOO!) and my bragging rights are now at an end.

October Website Update

October 1, 2009

Here I am already with another monthly update…

What’s Supp?

As mentioned last month, the Montreal HRC closed Sept. 27.  I visited the cafe for the past Montreal Pinathon event and it was a great cafe!   The staff were a lot of fun and very friendly and the cafe had a great look with the 2 floors.  Rumor is that the cafe may reopen in a smaller venue, if one can be found.  One can’t imagine that there will be a better location than where it was but perhaps a small cafe might be more affordable during the lean winter months.

I’ve been asked to create a page for the bottle openers collection.  For all you who just started collecting these gems, let me just warn you:  There are hundreds on them!   Little did I know, until the CD of pictures arrived from Carmen, what I was getting into…  Anyway, look for this collection to be published to the website in the next couple of weeks.

Pictures page has been moved to Flickr, you can check ’em out here:

If you visited the new Las Vegas cafe and would like to write a review of it, please send it to me and I’ll post it the group blog.  Or if anyone would like to review their local cafe or one they’ve recently visited, drop a me an email.

HR Hyderabad Bar has closed after a short existence – but it did manage to release a shot glass before the doors closed.

New Shots last month:

  • Halloween Vampire – 144 made so go get them soon!
  • Love, Live, Rock Girl

Red circles:

  • Penang
  • Hyderabad Bar

  • Las Vegas PinSanity 5 – Dorothy, Witches of Oz, Bear and Girl on Film
  • Las Vegas The Strip City and Grand Opening
  • Nassau City 2009 (same design as 2007 but has an added green logo on back)

  • Phoenix 2002 Mini Hurricane Set
  • Atlanta 2002 Mini Hurricane Set
  • Honolulu 2002 Mini Hurricane Set
  • San Francisco Halloween 2004 short
  • 3.5 inch Myrtle Beach Park Blue Logo flared

Of note:  The On-Line Island shot released in August has been recalled and won’t be reissued.  Only a small quantity of the shots were shipped to customers before it was pulled so count yourself luck if you got one!

Yeah, Baby!

HRC Las Vegas on the Strip opened September 5!  Released a GO shot and a city shot!

HRC Penang opened September 15!  Released a red circle shot!

Washington, DC – hosts the Pinapalooza event this month.  2 limited shots will be released!

To be released on-line in October:  the fire bike shot glass.

September Website Update

September 22, 2009

And another school year is about to start!  Where did the summer go?  Or that was my opening line – Heck, where did time go because I forgot all about publishing this.   So here’s a quick late update.  October is chomping at the keys…

What’s Supp?

The website has undergone a few changes again, in case you haven’t noticed.

The News Page is now linked to a blog page on WordPress.   If you would like to contribute anything Hard Rock Cafe related, drop me an email.  There will be more things written throughout the months (hopefully) about what’s going on in the world of Hard Rock Cafe.

The Lastest Released Shots is a tab off that page.  So never fear, the new shots are still being tracked for everyone.   If you know about a new shot glass, send the info my way.

New Shots in the month of August were:

City shots:  Bangkok,  Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis, Nashville and Philadelphia

Red Circle Logo:  Cabo San Lucas (bold), Bangkok (no STP), Belo Horizonte

Other:  Tulsa GO, Tulsa Flame and Online Island Guitars (also recalled)

Discovered:  Houston 2002 Mini Hurricane set, Nashville 4th of July 2005 short

Yeah, Baby!

As mentioned in the last update, Tulsa HRH and Casino opened on August 3.

Not so much a Yeah but the Seattle cafe opening has been postponed and according to the Hard Rock website, it will open in early 2010.  Here’s hoping the doors swing open before the Winter Olympics in February!

And don’t forget, Washington DC is hosting Pinapalooza in October.  2 limited edition shots will be released!

August Website Update

August 2, 2009

Summer is passing us by quite quickly and I’m melting as I type this, so excuse me if it’s a short post!!

And to address a complaint (that is coming in from multiple people) on where are the event pictures?!?!  I have a few from my own camera but I haven’t received any from all the other attendees.  SO COME ON! – send me your pics people!  I’m working on adding to the event pictures page but it would be easier if I didn’t have to do it a dozen times.   So, if you have some pictures, please, please, please, send them in this week.  You can send them to me just as they are – I’ll resize and everything.

What’s Supp?

I’ve made a few changes to the website:

As previous posted, our friend and fellow collector Andy Juhl passed away on July 7.  His tribute page is now linked on the site directory or you can get to it directly here:

The home page is fixed and working as initially intended when it first launched.  The little boxes shuffle now – each time you go to page the logos will move spots and there will be more pictures/logos mixed in.  Go ahead, hit the refresh button.  I dare ya!

I’m looking for ideas for stuff to put on the news page monthly – since there’s no one left who’s brave enough to be featured on the Collector Profile.  If you’ve got an idea, send it my way.

New Shots!

  • Bangalore Red Circle thin font
  • Dallas Red Circle
  • Makati Red Circle (no Philippines)
  • Makati Frosted Gold Logo (no Philippines)
  • Mockba Red Circle yellow logo
  • Pattaya Hotel Black Tattoo
  • Pattaya City 2009

  • Montreal Pinathon 2009 shots – 2 of the waitresses have white hair instead of brown.

  • Hollywood, FL Cinco de May 2004 short
  • San Antonio 2″ Mantra Set
  • Key West 2″ Mantra Set

Yeah, baby!

Dallas Cafe reopened in a new location on July 15!

Tulsa gets a new HRH and Casino – opens August 3.

New cafes announced:

Ho Chi Minh City, Penang and Puerto Banus.

Thanks to Paul M. and Barry N. for taking pictures of shots for the website.  They’ve helped fill in many gaps!

And to George S. who keeps finding shots we’re all missing.  We appreciate it George!
