HRH Tulsa

August 30, 2009

The rebranding of the Cherokee Casino to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino took two years but officially opened in Tulsa (Catoosa) on August 3, 2009:

The seventh hotel and casino in the Hard Rock family features 125,000 square feet of gaming space, several nightclubs and more than $2 million in rock music memorabilia.  There’s a bit of memorabilia for everyone, from Elvis, to Prince, to Toby Keith, to Madonna along with a dash of the Spice Girls.

Speaking of Toby, his “I Love This Bar and Grill” is one of the good eats you can visit while at the Casino.

It also has 35,000 square feet of convention space, 350 luxury hotel rooms, and a 170-acre golf course!  What it didn’t get was a Hard Rock Cafe, which was not negotiated with the Hotel licensing agreement.

But don’t feel sad, little shot collector.  The Tulsa HRH has put out 2 shots so far.  A limited edition grand opening winged guitar on a purple glass and a new take on the Flame logo (similar to the Las Vegas HRH but with more color).

Check out www.hrcshots.com for images of the shot glasses.

Cheers!

Buyer Beware

August 22, 2009

Well shot collectors beware, there’s a new seller on eBay selling counterfeit HRC shot glasses!  Most are from closed cafes, which are also considered rare.  Unfortunately people not in the know are purchasing them thinking that they are real.

eBay, however, has done very little about dealing with the complaints of fake shots and usually come back with an email stating that they did not have enough time to investigate before the auction closed.  How convenient!

So here’s a few tips on how to tell that these particular shots are counterfeit:

  • Base of the shot glass is incorrect; the original one is higher.
  • The logo was never this big.
  • The logo is the wrong color.
  • The word “Cafe” is too big.
  • The font is wrong – larger than the original.

When looking to purchase a rare shot, take the time to check out the pictures on www.hrcshots.com and see if you note any differences.  Most of the oldest and hardest to get shots only had one logo release and font printing.  And if a seller on eBay has multiples of the same rare shot, consider that suspicious.

Of late, the following counterfeit cafe shot glasses have been selling for $70 or more on eBay:

  • Amman
  • Bangkok (the old no STP version)
  • Belfast
  • Bogota
  • Shenzhen
  • Taichung
  • Tel Aviv (the old no STP version)

Buyer beware!

HRC Dallas reopens!

August 22, 2009

Dallas Hard Rock Cafe re0pened it’s doors just over 2 years since it closed in March 2007.   Originally located in a fantastic old Baptist church, the building was unfortunately demolished on January 20, 2008.

August Website Update

August 2, 2009

Summer is passing us by quite quickly and I’m melting as I type this, so excuse me if it’s a short post!!

And to address a complaint (that is coming in from multiple people) on where are the event pictures?!?!  I have a few from my own camera but I haven’t received any from all the other attendees.  SO COME ON! – send me your pics people!  I’m working on adding to the event pictures page but it would be easier if I didn’t have to do it a dozen times.   So, if you have some pictures, please, please, please, send them in this week.  You can send them to me just as they are – I’ll resize and everything.

What’s Supp?

I’ve made a few changes to the website:

As previous posted, our friend and fellow collector Andy Juhl passed away on July 7.  His tribute page is now linked on the site directory or you can get to it directly here:

http://www.hrcshots.com/andyjuhltribute.htm

The home page is fixed and working as initially intended when it first launched.  The little boxes shuffle now – each time you go to page the logos will move spots and there will be more pictures/logos mixed in.  Go ahead, hit the refresh button.  I dare ya!

I’m looking for ideas for stuff to put on the news page monthly – since there’s no one left who’s brave enough to be featured on the Collector Profile.  If you’ve got an idea, send it my way.

New Shots!

  • Bangalore Red Circle thin font
  • Dallas Red Circle
  • Makati Red Circle (no Philippines)
  • Makati Frosted Gold Logo (no Philippines)
  • Mockba Red Circle yellow logo
  • Pattaya Hotel Black Tattoo
  • Pattaya City 2009

Mistake:

  • Montreal Pinathon 2009 shots – 2 of the waitresses have white hair instead of brown.

Discovered:

  • Hollywood, FL Cinco de May 2004 short
  • San Antonio 2″ Mantra Set
  • Key West 2″ Mantra Set

Yeah, baby!

Dallas Cafe reopened in a new location on July 15!

Tulsa gets a new HRH and Casino – opens August 3.

New cafes announced:

Ho Chi Minh City, Penang and Puerto Banus.

Kudos!

Thanks to Paul M. and Barry N. for taking pictures of shots for the website.  They’ve helped fill in many gaps!

And to George S. who keeps finding shots we’re all missing.  We appreciate it George!

Cheers!

Welcome to what is about to become the News Page for the www.HRCShot.com  website.  Currently, I’m working on the structure and theme but here’s the first post to get things started!

It isn’t perfect but should work out ok.  We’ll see how it goes.

Take Note:

On the side bar is a link to the list of Latest Shots Released, so no fear, I’m still tracking that for ya!

Other stuff will link up as necessary so keep checking the right side bar.
